We recently made the annual pilgrimage (along with thousands of other excited business owners) to the Dallas Market Center to check out all the fabulous new merchandise available.
If you’ve ever been lucky enough to attend a wholesale market event, you know it’s almost a high of sorts. The air is charged with the electric energy of thousands roaming through the merchandise showrooms with their mental wheels burning rubber in their minds thinking of all the possibilities. For creative minds like ours, it’s not only physically exhausting (the Dallas Market Center complex is over 5 MILLION square feet) but it is mentally draining too. The creative adrenaline flowing with new ideas, the decisions of what will sell as is, what combinations to buy to create things that will sell, where and how it will be displayed in our design center and how it will benefit our customers is serious stuff! We have to pace ourselves.
Dallas Market Center is a myriad of not only home decor and furnishings, but toys, clothing, shoes, food, candles…you name it, they’ve got it.
Our first day was basically a train wreck. We arrived fresh as a daisy and basically spent the entire day in the first showroom we entered. We fell in love with their displays and merchandise because it totally fit our aesthetic. This place was spectacular! The sales representative was a doll and so sweet. They ploy you with wonderful food and drinks (we may or may not have had the best frozen mango margaritas we had ever tasted!!) so you never want to leave. You just keep mulling over all the wonderful possibilities in your mind. It’s brilliant really…if hunger and thirst don’t drive you out, you literally lose all track of time. And honestly, who isn’t more creative after their 2nd mango margarita?? That evening, after the margarita induced fog lifted we realized that the next day we had to have a plan.
The 2nd day we hit the ground running. We had a list of the showrooms that were “Must Sees” and we worked the plan, man! We trekked through that place like we were scaling Everest. Once all the Must Sees were out of the way, we had a couple hours left in the day to just literally go through the corridors of about 5 floors and pick out the showrooms we felt were worth venturing into on day 3. We worked the plan and we were not exhausted and we made good progress toward our goal of expanding our knowledge of what was available for us to provide to our customers. Day 3 went smoothly (it’s that plan, you gotta stick to the plan).
We literally took too many pictures to count but here are a few of our favorites:
Our plan is to go back in March for “mini market” and we promise to do some Facebook Live videos at that time so you can experience the gorgeous displays throughout every showroom right along with us.
All in all our trip was a success. We saw, we ordered, and we were cheerfully exhausted. Merchandise will be trickling in throughout the year and plans are being made. Our 2018 residential Christmas decor theme will be rolled out in a Christmas in July spectacular not soon to be forgotten.
Be sure to follow us on Facebook to keep up on all the current events and watch as we unpack lots of fun new merchandise from the Dallas Market Center January event.
Stay tuned for all the happenings in the “hood”, the Sisterhood, that is!
